The Overmind was bound to one single directive that it could not override: perfect the Swarm at all costs. He bound them to a void-based hive mind, a central consciousness named the Overmind. However, Amon did not want to repeat his failure with the protoss and created a means to ensure the zerg did not evolve individual egos. These were the zerg, and quickly they thrived as one of the apex predators of Zerus. Working on ensuring their evolution, this bug creature evolved to attach to the spines of other, larger creatures, assimilating into the and forcing adaptation upon them.

On Zerus, they found a small parasitic bug-like creature, who had emerged from a green spawning pool of primordial goop. They first tried to uplift a psionic species named the protoss, but failed, then seeking to create a species with the capability for great change. They sought to uplift species to be as powerful as their xel’naga brethren, in order to destroy their race’s cycle of creating universes to make new xel’naga species, a process they saw as barbaric. In eons past, a group of renegade xel’naga, a progenitor species for life in the galaxy, under their leader Amon came to the volcanic planet Zerus. This episode is for Catsicle, one of the best Dehaka speedrunners out there and a chill dude.

Personally I love the idea of primal zerg so let’s dig in. Dehaka’s always interesting to me since he’s a case where when he was released in Heart of the Swarm he seemed to have been the subject of a lot of mockery, but after Heroes of the Storm he got a pretty large following that seemed to follow him into Co-op. This week we’ll be digging into everyone’s favorite dinosaur zerg, the One-Who-Collects, Dehaka.
